English, Maths & Digital Skills
In the UK around 1 in 6 adults still struggle with reading and writing, and around 1 in 4 adults still find maths difficult.
Currently 90% of jobs need at least basic computer skills, but international research shows that around one half of adults in England and Northern Ireland lack the basic skills to effectively use computers.

We have courses that will help you to:
- improve your reading, writing, spelling, grammar, speaking and listening
- improve your understanding of money, shapes, weights, measure, decimals and percentages
- help your children with their homework
- get a qualification
find a new job
We work with learners of all abilities – from beginners (Pre-Entry) to Level 2 (GCSE). Our classes are designed for adults and are small so you will get plenty of attention. If you are not quite ready to gain a GCSE but want to take the first step towards improving your skills, we would love to hear from you.
Our courses are for adults who do not already have A*- C or 9-4 grade at GCSE. Most English and maths courses are free of charge if English is your first language* or if English is not your first language (depending on UK residency).
Our Digital courses are free if you are unemployed and looking for work, or if you are on a low income (*please enquire for more information regarding eligibility criteria)

This course is aimed at adults living in Hampshire aged 19+ who would like to develop their knowledge and skills of English writing. This course can provide a useful refresher, or prepare you for progression onto our fully accredited Level 1 or Level 2 English Functional Skills Course if you do not currently have a Level 2 UK English qualification. The course will cover the following:
· Use simple spelling strategies to improve your spelling and vocabulary.
· How to write simple sentences using noun, verb, noun.
· Be able to write compound sentences using co-ordinating conjunctions.
· Start to write more complex sentences using subordinate conjunctions.
· Write in paragraphs that demonstrates the correct structure.

This course is aimed at adults living in Hampshire aged 19+ who would like to develop their English Reading Skills. This can be simply to refresh your knowledge and skills, or for progression onto our Level 1 or Level 2 fully accredited English Functional Skills Course if you have not already achieved a Level 2 or equivalent at GCSE. The course will cover the following:
· How to read and recognise the purpose of different styles of writing
· How to recognise the audience a piece of writing is aimed at
· How to use skimming and scanning to find a piece of information when reading
· How to find language features and presentation features in a text
· How to find positive and negative bias in written texts

This course is aimed at adults living in Hampshire aged 19+ who would like to develop their knowledge and skills of English spelling, punctuation, and grammar. This course will either be useful as a refresher or it will prepare you for progression onto our fully accredited Level 1 or Level 2 English Functional Skills Course if you do not currently have a Level 2 English qualification. The course will cover the following:
· Identify sounds for spelling.
· Identify basic English terminology: nouns, adjectives, adverbs and verbs.
· Extend your vocabulary using synonyms, prefixes and suffixes.
· Use spelling strategies to improve your spelling and vocabulary.
· Use commas to separate clauses in a sentence.

Our Refresh Your English Skills course is for adults aged 19+ who would like to develop their skills using English in everyday situations. It is designed to enable you to gain self-confidence and knowledge to help you both at home or at work. It will also offer a useful taster before embarking on a full Functional Skills Qualification course. This short course will include the following:
· Reading
· Writing skills
· Communication (Speaking & Listening)
There are no entry requirements. This course will be delivered online and special software or applications will be required, but a camera and microphone on your device is highly recommended to get the maximum benefit. Please see the flyer for more information.
Please note that Refresh Your English Skills is not intended as an ESOL course and it is recommended that learners complete an ESOL programme before embarking on this short course with Hampshire Learns.

This course is aimed at adults living in Hampshire aged 19+ who would like to develop their knowledge and skills of English speaking, listening and communication skills. This course can be useful as a refresher or it can prepare you for progression to our fully accredited English Level 1 or Level 2 Functional Skills course if you do not currently have a Level 2 English qualification. The course will cover the following:
- Ask questions to gain information.
- Listen and respond to questions.
- Talk about a subject for a few minutes.
- Engage in a discussion with people about an everyday topic.
- Explore synonyms to gain a knowledge of new words to gain a wider vocabulary.

Learn to read
There are 2.4 million adults in England alone – over 7% of the working age population – who can barely read or cannot read at all.
Read Easy offer free, one-to-one coaching to adults who want to learn to read via our trained volunteer Reading Coaches.
Established as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in 2011, Read Easy UK now includes more than 80 volunteer-led groups helping 1000+ adults learn to read in their community.

Free maths support is available for adults aged 19 and over who do not currently have a Level 2/GCSE maths at grade 4 (previously known as grade C).
- Courses are FREE and suited to all levels, from Entry Level to Level 2
- Sessions can be delivered either online or in-person
- Sessions are available both during the day and in the evening
- Courses can be a pathway to achieving a maths qualification that is recognised by employers, universities and colleges; and can also help individuals access Apprenticeships
- Multiply can also support eligible learners with access to childcare and transport
