    ESOL Courses for Non-English Speakers

    Hampshire Achieves Adult Tailored Learning offers a selection of FREE English courses for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). We offer various Beginners to Intermediate courses, either online or face to face in community venues in Hampshire. Our ESOL courses can help you improve your English language skills to support your child's learning, gain work, advance your career, or prepare you for further academic or vocational study in the UK

    Our ESOL courses are fully funded for eligible learners age 19+ living in Hampshire via Hampshire County Council’s Adult Education Budget.  If you are unsure if you are eligible, then please contact adult.learning@hants.gov.uk for more information.

    Please note that fully funded ESOL courses are only available individuals who have been a permanent resident in the UK for at least 3 years or meet the exception to the 3 year residency rules as set out by the Department for Education (DfE).  Acceptance on an ESOL course does not constitute an immigration sponsorship and no Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) certificate will be issued.

      Course Information - ESOL PRE-ENTRY TO ENTRY (A0/A1)


      This FREE face to face ESOL course is for eligible adults living in Hampshire aged 19+ who would like to gain skills using English in everyday situations. It will help you to gain confidence and knowledge of English reading, writing, and speaking to help you at home and at work. This course is suitable for people whose English is at Pre-Entry – Entry 1 (Beginner Level A0 / A1) e.g. people who can speak, read or write only a few words in English or maybe none at all. This course will help you to:

      • Ask and answer simple questions
      • Practice pronunciation
      • Understand a simple explanation
      • Learn basic English grammar
      • Understand a simple instruction
      • Practice having a conversation

      Commitment

      • You will be invited to attend a tutor-led online group session 2 hours a week for 6 weeks
      • You will be offered learning tasks to carry out at home, in your own time
      • You will be offered the opportunity to progress to further learning

      There are no formal entry requirements for this course but is most suitable for ESOL learners who are at Beginner ESOL Pre-Entry / Entry (A0/A1).

      Course Information - ESOL ENTRY 2 - ENTRY 3 (A2/B1)


      This FREE face to face ESOL course is for eligible adults living in Hampshire aged 19+ who would like to gain skills using English in everyday situations. It will help you talk, read and write about more interesting subjects and make fewer mistakes so people can understand you, you can understand them, and you can read and write important messages, emails, forms and news stories. It is for people whose English is at Entry 2 / Entry 3 (Pre-Intermediate A2 / B1) This course will help you to:

      • Ask and answer questions
      • Use clear pronunciation
      • Understand an explanation
      • Learn more about grammar
      • Understand instructions
      • Take part in discussions

      This FREE online ESOL course is aimed at adults living in Hampshire aged 19+ who would like to to gain skills using English in everyday situations. It will help you to gain confidence and knowledge of English reading, writing and speaking to help you at home and at work. This course is suitable for people whose English is at Entry 1 / Beginner (A1) e.g. people who can speak, read or write only a few words in English. Your course will include:

      • Asking and answering simple questions

      • Practicing pronunciation

      • Learning basic letters, grammar and spellings

      • Understanding simple instructions in English

      This FREE online ESOL course is aimed at adults living in Hampshire aged 19+ who would like to to gain skills using English in everyday situations. It will help you to gain confidence and knowledge of English reading, writing and speaking to help you at home and at work. This course is suitable for people whose English is at Entry 2 / Lower Intermediate e.g. people who can speak, read and write English sentences. Your course will include:

      ·       How to speak to communicate straightforward information, ideas and opinions clearly; adapting speech and content for the purpose and situation

      ·       Develop your skills to read and understand a range of texts accurately and independently

      ·       Write to communicate information, ideas and opinions clearly and effectively, using the format and style appropriate to the purpose, content and audience.

      Course Information - ESOL ONLINE ENTRY 3 (A2/B1)


      This FREE online ESOL course is for eligible adults living in Hampshire aged 19+ who would like to gain skills using English in everyday situations. This course will help you practise your speaking, listening, reading, and writing so you can understand people better, talk about most daily topics, read a simple news story, and write a long email or letter. It is for people whose English is at Entry 3 / Pre-Intermediate level (A2/B1). This course will include:

      ·       listen and respond to spoken language, including straightforward information and narratives, and follow straightforward explanations and instructions

      ·       read and understand short, straightforward texts on familiar topics accurately and independently

      ·       write to communicate information and opinions with some adaption to the intended audience.

      Commitment

      •  You will be invited to attend a tutor-led online group session 2 hours a week for 6 weeks
      • You will be offered learning tasks to carry out at home, in your own time

      This FREE online ESOL course is for eligible adults living in Hampshire aged 19+ who would like to gain further skills using English in everyday situations. It will help you to gain confidence and knowledge of English reading, writing, and speaking fluently that can help you at home and at work. This course is suitable for people whose English is at Intermediate Level (B1). This course will include:

      ·       listen and respond to spoken language using the correct grammar and pronunciation.

      ·       receive and give more detailed information and follow instructions

      ·       read and understand texts on familiar topics accurately and independently

      ·       write to communicate information and opinions.

      Commitment

      • You will be invited to attend a tutor-led online group session 2 hours a week for 6 weeks
      • You will be offered learning tasks to carry out at home, in your own time
      • You will be offered the opportunity to progress to further learning

      Course Information - ONLINE ACCREDITED ESOL ENTRY 3 (A2/B1) READING


       This FREE online course is for eligible adults living in Hampshire aged 19+ who would like to gain a recognised ESOL reading qualification. This qualification gives you the knowledge, skills and confidence to use English in your studies, employment, and other areas of your life. It is for people whose English is at Entry 3 / Pre-Intermediate level (A2/B1). This course will include:

      - read, understand and obtain information from short, descriptive and explanatory texts from everyday sources

      - be able to respond to the information you read, including narratives, explanations and instructions from everyday sources

      Commitment

      • You will attend a tutor-led online group session 2 x 4 hours a week for 6 weeks
      • You will be offered learning tasks to carry out at home, in your own time
      • You will be offered the opportunity to progress to further learning
