CAREERS DEPARTMENT AT PETER SYMONDS

Whether you know what career you want to do or have no idea, now is a really good time to research your options and next steps, allowing you to make sure you are choosing the right Level 3 subjects.  If you do have a particular career in mind it is vital that you check out any specific subject requirements.  Below is a list of useful websites to explore careers and degree courses linked to your Level 3 subject choices. This may also be useful if you are still unsure about the Level 3 subjects you have chosen.

The Careers Department will be available when you enrol and start college to help you with any questions or queries you may have.  You should still be able to access advice and support from your current school with regards to Careers, along with the National Careers Service which provides a telephone service and online web-chat facility.

  •  UCAS connects people to university, post degree studies, apprenticeships & internships. The website ucas.com has information on further education, higher education, along with useful subject guides and virtual events you could sign up for. As certain degrees may require specific Level 3 subjects, you can research university requirements on this website, along with going directly to university websites.
  • The Russell Group represents 24 universities.  The Informed Choices website helps young people find out more about how subjects taken at college can affect your options at university and later on.
  • BBC Bitesize has a dedicated careers area which includes a section on where your favourite subject takes you; information on moving onto college; exploring careers by job sectors and the world of work.
  • The National Careers Service ‘Explore Careers’ section can help enabling you to explore and research careers further and discover the entry requirements needed for careers you may be considering. The Prospects website also has a very useful job profiles section.
  • The Prospects Website (prospects.ac.uk) has a wealth of information -  ‘What can I do with my degree?’ is particularly useful to explore ideas of careers you can develop with different degree subjects.
  • iCould (icould.com) provides real stories to inspire your career ideas, with quizzes and videos to explore your options further.
  • If you are starting to look ahead to university, or considering competitive course/institutions, the  Unitasterday website allows you to sign up for virtual taster days, tours and informative events.

We look forward to meeting you, and if you have any questions or need advice we will be available at all enrolment sessions.
